District VII will hold their 3rd Annual High School Honors Event on October 15- 16, 2010 at Cleveland State University. Ensembles will include band, choir, and jazz ensemble. We are thrilled that this year District IV will be joining our district for this festival, which will make this honors festival representative of nearly all Cleveland area high schools. The band will be chaired by Tim Niederkorn (Willoughby MS), the choir by Julie Green (Kenston HS) and Lisa Litteral (Beaumont School), and Brett Baker (Cleveland Hts. HS) will chair the jazz band. Guest conducting for the 2010 honors festival will be Dr. Joseph Parisi from the University of Missouri, K.C. (band), Ann Usher from the University of Akron (choir), and David Kay from Cleveland’s University School (jazz band). Dr. Birch Browning and Cleveland State Music Department will offer professional development sessions so you can meet your districts’ professional development requirements for the day. We wish to thank Dr. Browning for once again hosting this event.
Nomination forms for each ensemble have been included in this newsletter if this has been mailed to a high school. They are also available on the District VII website. The deadline for nominations will be September 11. Please note that both teacher and a school administrator must sign the nomination form indicating awareness of OMEA’s policy that a school teacher or official must be present on October 15th and 16th. We look forward to another terrific Honors Festival this year!
